THE MUSICAL OLYMPUS FOUNDATION ORGANIZED “MUSIC AND ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY” SEMINAR WITHIN THE 12TH SESSION OF THE WORLD PUBLIC FORUM "DIALOGUE OF CIVILIZATIONS"

The World Public Forum "Dialogue of Civilizations" was held on the Greek island of Rhodes on September 25-29. For several years already at the initiative of the President of Musical Olympus Foundation Irina Nikitina the scientific programme of the forum included a section on music. This year the experts discussed the interaction of advanced technology and music.

Advanced technologies create unlimited opportunities to include art, first of all music, into our daily lives. To what extent do these technologies change emotional and mental impact of music? What are the forecasts for the future development of technology to create and transmit music? How with the help of new technologies music can bring together cultures, communities, and people? These were the questions that the participants of the seminar, invited experts from different countries, discussed.

“The list of seminar participants was diverse and reflected the contemporary and manifold nature of this topic. We invited researchers of music and soundscape, scientists, composers, and representatives of brand new musical specialties. They were Peter Major aka OOPOLOPO, renowned Scandinavian electronic sound producer, and jazz keyboardist, music producer, artist and DJ from New Zealand Mark de Clive-Lowe,” said moderator of the seminar “Music and advanced technology” Irina Nikitina.

Also participating in the seminar were: Michael Depledge, Chair of Environment and Human Health, University of Exeter (UK); Sir Timothy Bartel Smit, the founder of Eden Project (Cornwall, UK); Nigel Osborne, composer, co-director of the Institute for Music in Human and Social Development (UK); Agnieszka Roginska, Associate Director of the Music Technology, New York University (USA); Bryan Pijanowski, Professor of Soundscape Ecology, Purdue University (USA); and Yuri Vachnadze, physicist, writer, journalist (Georgia).
